The grind

Most tea is ground too fine for chai.

Fine dust dissolves fast and floods the cup with bitterness before the flavour arrives. Danedar is the coarser, granular cut — it releases slowly, which is exactly what a rolling boil with milk and sugar demands.

Slow release

Larger granules give up colour and strength over minutes, not seconds. You get depth instead of astringency.

Built for milk

A tea that tastes fine black often disappears under milk. Danedar holds its body, so the chai still tastes of tea.

Aroma that carries

Coarse granules trap volatile oils until they hit hot water. You smell the tea from across the kitchen.

The ritual

How to brew it properly

Danedar rewards patience. This is the method we use — the timer runs alongside so you don't have to guess.

  1. Boil the water

One cup of water per serving. Bring it to a full rolling boil before anything else goes in.

  2. Add tea and sugar

One heaped teaspoon of Swasik per cup. Add sugar now — it draws out colour. Boil two minutes.

  3. Crush the spices

Optional. Fresh ginger, a cracked cardamom pod. Crush, don't chop, and add to the boil.

  4. Pour in the milk

Half a cup per serving. Let it rise and settle three times — this is where the malt comes through.

  5. Strain and serve

Straight into a warmed cup or kulhad. Drink it hot; danedar chai does not improve with waiting.

Full brew

Six and a half minutes, start to strainer. The timer moves through each step and highlights where you are.

About Aghana — the essence of purity

An honest cup shouldn't be a luxury.

Aghana began with a simple frustration: too much of the tea sold as premium tastes ordinary once it reaches the cup. We source leaves from India's established tea-growing regions, led by the gardens of Assam, and grind them in the traditional danedar style.

The result is Swasik — a deep, malty, full-bodied chai with real colour and real aroma, not just a dark brew. We keep it pure, we keep it fresh, and we price it so a good cup of tea stays an everyday thing.

Aghana is a brand of Vinaya Enterprises, a proprietorship based in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Real strength. Real aroma. Traditional danedar chai, blended from India's finest tea gardens.
